Jason A. Bonaventure

Special Counsel

Jason, a proud South Louisiana native, boasts an impressive legal career of over twenty-five years, skilled in both transactional and litigation attorney.  Throughout his career, he has worked with a diverse range of clients, including state, local, and tribal governments, large and small construction companies, design professionals, insurance firms, railroads, and various other businesses needing legal support. He has made his mark in the courtroom, successfully litigating cases in the United States Fifth Circuit, all three Louisiana federal district courts, the Louisiana Supreme Court, tribal courts, and almost every state appellate and district court in Louisiana.

Jason’s career in law began by balancing weekend nights as a sheriff deputy in Pointe Coupee Parish while pursuing his B.A. in Government from Southeastern Louisiana University. After obtaining his undergraduate degree in 1994, he attended Southern University Law Center, graduating seventh in the Class of 1998.  He went on to complete two prestigious federal clerkships in the United States Middle District of Louisiana under the Honorable John V. Parker and the Honorable Ralph E. Tyson.

In 2000, eager to begin practicing law, Jason joined a regional construction law firm, initiating a lifelong career in not only construction law, but business, employment, and public-sector law as well.  This solid base served him well ten years later in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and Rita, when he was called to serve as the Deputy General Counsel for the State Division of Administration. In this pivotal role, he played a critical part in major public construction projects, drafting public works law, negotiating complex business transactions to rebuild the state’s infrastructure, and litigating significant government and construction cases. As the recovery efforts stabilized, Jason chose to transition back to the private sector in 2014, taking on the role of the chief operations officer of a successful multi-state contractor until recently.

Jason’s diverse experience and education have provided him with rare insights not available to most legal practitioners, allowing him to provide a practical, well-rounded perspective to effectively address his clients’ legal needs. Today, Jason’s excellence is recognized by Martindale-Hubbell, Hubbell, with a coveted AV rating—signifying the highest-level of legal ability and unwavering ethical standards. Jason has chaired Baton Rouge Bar Association’s Construction Committee and is also requested frequently asked to speak on developing construction, employment, and public law issues at construction industry conferences, universities, and bar associations.  His leadership, however, extends beyond legal practice and into his community, where he has served as president of the East Ascension Rotary Club, a member of several local non-profit boards, and as Scoutmaster for his local Troop.
