Dr. Alejandro Perkins, affectionately known as “Al,” emerges as a beacon of inspiration and service within the legal community and beyond as managing partner at Hammonds, Sills, Adkins, Guice, Noah & Perkins. 

Specializing in complex litigation, general liability, labor and employment, and education law, Al became a cornerstone of the firm. His exceptional abilities were recognized in January 2013 when he became the youngest partner of the firm, a testament to his remarkable expertise and leadership.

In 2022, Al’s peers bestowed upon him the honor of becoming the Managing Partner of the firm, entrusting him with a position of significant responsibility and influence. Under his guidance, the firm continued to thrive, benefitting from his strategic vision and unwavering dedication to excellence.

Beyond his legal practice, Al’s commitment to education and mentorship shines brightly. For seven years, he has served as an adjunct professor at the Southern University Law Center, imparting his knowledge of Trial Advocacy to aspiring legal professionals. His dedication to nurturing the next generation of lawyers is a testament to his passion for education and community empowerment.

Al’s influence extends far beyond the classroom. He has been an active member of numerous legal societies, including the National Bar Association and the Louis A. Martinet Legal Society. His service as the National Bar Association’s Deputy General Counsel, coupled with his role as President of the Louis A. Martinet Legal Society – Greater Baton Rouge Chapter, reflects his commitment to shaping the legal landscape and advocating for justice. Al has also served as a board member for 100 Black Men for the past 6 years.

In addition to his legal contributions, Al is deeply involved in higher education. He was appointed by Gov. John Bel Edwards to the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana (UL) System, the 18th largest higher education system in the country serving 9 universities. This attests to his dedication to fostering accessible and quality education. Serving as Chairman of the Board, he oversaw critical university president searches, leaving an indelible mark on higher education in Louisiana. He remains on the board and has served in the selection of 10 college presidents in Louisiana.

In his personal life, he is a loyal member of the Mt. Gillion Baptist Church and a lifetime member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and the Masonic Lodge.

Al earned his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Xavier University of Louisiana in 1999. This achievement laid the foundation for his legal aspirations, which he pursued at the Southern University Law Center, earning in his Juris Doctorate in 2004.

Al’s exceptional achievements have not gone unnoticed. He has been recognized by both of his alma maters, Southern University Law Center’s Hall of Fame and as a Distinguished Alumni and Xavier University’s 40 under 40, for his outstanding contributions. He was also bestowed the honor of an Honorary Doctorate from Grambling State University for his outstanding leadership in higher education. His accolades include the National Bar Association President’s Leadership Award and the Trailblazer award from Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., among many others.
