2014 LA School Law Workshop

Hammonds, Sills, Adkins & Guice, LLP is pleased to announce the 2014 Louisiana School Law Workshop to be held September 18 and 19 in Baton Rouge. Teachers, school and central office administrators, School Board members, and attorneys specializing in school law are invited to attend. In years past, this workshop, formerly known as The School Law Institute, was sponsored by the Louisiana Tech University College of Education, utilizing presenters from Hammonds, Sills, Adkins & Guice.

In this increasingly litigious world, legal issues affecting the organization and function of local schools and school systems have become a heightened concern for all involved. For example, the use of disciplinary procedures to monitor and manage students as outlined by State law is an issue that causes great frustration for school boards and school law professionals. In addition, continual changes in federal and state legislation add confusion to the protection of both student and employee rights.

The 2014 Louisiana School Law Workshop will provide an intensive 2-day, (9 hours) of presentations on important current legal issues concerning public schools and their operations in the State of Louisiana. Additionally, attorneys attending the workshop are eligible for 11 CLE credit hours – including 1 hour of Ethics credit, and 1 hour of Professionalism credit, as required by Louisiana State Bar regulations. Downloads of the agenda and staff biographies are available on this page.

To register for the workshop, please download the registration form and mail it to us along with a personal or school system check.

The workshop will be held at the newly remodeled Embassy Suites Hotel in Baton Rouge. Special room rates are available. Click on the Embassy Suites link to connect directly to the School Law Workshop webpage.

We are confident that you will leave the 2014 Louisiana School Law Workshop with up-to-date information on the legal challenges facing you as an educator, administrator, or attorney in the state of Louisiana. We look forward to your registration and attendance.
